Craigend Resource Centre
The aim of the new-build development is to create enlarged and enhanced space into which the client group, Craigend Resource Centre can grow, and offer increased services to the local community. The new space creates an even greater presence within the area and improves on the existing facilities on offer, recognising the crucial role played by the organisation.
The new facilities include: cafe, crèche, laundry, multi-purpose hall, IT & cooking training spaces and a commercial kitchen.
The building is designed as a set of three gables, responding both to the historical warehouse forms in the area and the residential context. The heart, and entry point of the building is the Café, creating a lively focus for the centre. Creche, Laundry and community meeting spaces provide both a functional and essential social purpose in the community. Double height volumes mark the main public spaces, with open aspect to the stepped terrace landscape in front, and the Lady Burn flowing past the site.
