Pipe Factory | Calton
Friends of the Pipe Factory
The Italian Renaissance inspired building, built in 1876-79, and designed by architect Matthew Forsyth, exhibits some of the most intricate and ornate use of brick detailing to be found within the city. The building was in a state of disrepair, requiring complete re-roofing, structural consolidation, replacement of historical inappropriate brickwork repairs with repairs suitable for the listed fabric, remedial works to repair rot and damp ingress.
Following the successful competition win, INCH were appointed, with Mark Kilkenny Architects, to undertake essential repairs on the structure, upgrading roof and windows.
Phase 1 of the project is complete, with future phases to follow now that the structure has been saved.
The project was funded via the Barras Vacant and Underused Floorspace Grant Scheme & Glasgow City Heritage Fund with anticipated funding from Heritage Lottery Fund.
