NL Colours

A colours research and design project for a fully inclusive colour palette for long term care and supported living accommodation

INCH were appointed by North Lanarkshire Counil to undertake a 'Colours' reserach and design proposal project which offered the local authority a variety of easy-to-understand colour options for adoption within communal areas of long term care and supported living developments. The colour schemes were developed in consultation with tenants and residents and provide interior designs all which meet current guidance on design of environments for older people, people living with Dementia, the British Standards for accessibility and designing for neurodiversity.

This document enables the Client - the local authority- to make informed decisions on colourways and interior specifications, safe in the knowledge that environment will be both pleasant and appropriate for users with cognitive change and age-related sight impairments.

The detailed colour schemes are prefaced by general guidance on the principles which have influenced the selection of colours, providing facts to support those engaging with clients on the selection of colour schemes, and allowing continual development of knowledge in the field of interior design for older people and those with dementia.
