Replacing the communal bathing facilities with en-suite accommodation for the residents was a key driver for the works. The internal re-configuration at ground floor enabled eight rooms to be upgraded with new en-suite facilities. Room layout options were developed and discussed with the client allowing flexibility for current and future resident’s preferences and needs.
INCH’s expertise in dementia friendly design was incorporated into the layouts and finishes where possible, enabling a modern, safe upgrade to the existing building. Staff and residents’ views and opinions were considered during the design process to create a homely environment where all felt safe and comfortable within their new surroundings.
A new kitchen space with laundry facilities was created to provide residents with an alternative social space which features a connection to the garden via a new timber deck.
The nature of the building use required a phased design approach due to the inability to re-locate residents during the works. INCH and Blackwood worked closely with the contractor to reduce the impact on the residents and ensuring the health and safety of all was at the forefront throughout.
