A complex and ambitious programme of internal remodelling and formation of new glazed walkways within an existing extra care housing develoment for Trust Housing Association. Three blocks of 12 existing apartments were adapted to meet Housing for Varying Needs standards and Lifetime Homes principles.
The internal and external circulation was rationalised and new glazed internal walkways were formed to create a safe, heated route for residents to circulate throughout the development. Alterations were made to communal areas including the lounge, assisted spa bathing to moderinse the resident amenities.
Apartments dedicated to young adults with learning disabilities were designed on an individual needs basis in close dialogue with the residents' occupational therapists and colour schemes developed to provide resident choice whilst ensuring each colourway met dementia design principles of tonal contrast.
